Who are tourist guides and tour leaders?

Tourist guides and tour leaders are professions that are specific only for tourism sector. Their role in the realization of tourism travels in the recent times becomes even bigger and today it is almost unimaginable to start an organized tourism travel without presence of tour leader or tourist guide. Besides that, in the developed tourism regions and countries there are local tourist guides who can interpret local cultural and natural heritage in the best way, and sometimes they are the only representatives of local population with whom tourists get in contact. For all mentioned it is no wonder that the quality of tourist guides and tour leaders is very important for the quality of travel itself, and therefor for the guest satisfaction at the end.

In order for someone to be a good tourist guide, besides knowing well cultural and natural heritage of the region in which one works, and for which one has specific qualification issued by the appropriate authority, one needs to possess certain qualities necessary to work with groups as well as to have specific guiding skills and techniques. Of all those necessary elements the knowledge is gained through permanent learning, while guiding skills and techniques are gained through practice after the training if finished. It is very important that the tourist guide training contains a part in which participants gain practical knowledge in modern ways and by qualified people. However, it is even more important that tourist guides renew and extend their knowledge, but also to improve guiding skills and techniques, in order to increase the quality of their work.
